SLUT walk

On January 24th, 2011, a representative of the Toronto Police gave insight into the Force’s view of sexual assault by stating: “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized”.
This short sighted statement in turn caused outrage in some York University students, enough to organize a peaceful demonstration voicing their opinions to the police and public. It makes sense. Why should the victims be blamed for what negative things happen to them.
As one of the speakers put it, it would be like blaming banks for getting robbed because they advertise that they have money, or putting blame on home owners that leave their doors unlocked for getting robbed. It is important to tell society that rape in wrong and just because someone is dressed scantily clad doesn't mean that it is okay to have non-consensual sex with them.
